I am very happy to announce that this weekend I was awarded first place in the 2016 Open Category of the Ringwood Eisteddfod. Thanks to Mark Dipnall, Ruth Hawkins and the rest of the Ringwood Eisteddfod committee for hosting this competition which is a fantastic opportunity for young performers to play to an audience and meet other classical guitarists. Thanks also to the adjudicator, Clinton Eldridge, for his kind words and feedback on my performance. Well done to my […]
I recently completed a 14 concert tour of regional Victoria, sponsored by Regional Arts Victoria and Creative Victoria. The tour was promoted by JustShows2Go and it was a pleasure visiting some parts of Victoria that I haven’t been to for a while, and other parts that I’ve never seen! It was really enjoyable playing with Tonié Field, Cameron Sloan and Michael MacManus in the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music Guitar Quartet (MCM Guitar Quartet). Our program was a mix of Australian, […]
I recently performed at the Mt Beauty Music Festival and had the pleasure of receiving the Clifford Hocking Memorial Scholarship. Thank you very much to the organisers of this scholarship which will allow me to record Nigel Westlake’s ‘Mosstrooper Peak’ Sonata for Guitar. Attached are some photos from the event!
Recently I performed at St George’s Anglican Parish as part of the Travancore Music Series. It was a fantastic night and it was a pleasure to see so many faces, new and old, in the audience. The event was really well organised and all the credit goes to Leonie Thompson and Nick Slaney for the hard work they put in. The music series is supporting the purchase of a new piano in the church that will allow the use of this […]
Evan Hopkins Awarded the 2016 Mt Beauty Clifford Hocking Scholarship I am very pleased to announce that I have been awarded the 2016 Mt Beauty Music Festival Clifford Hocking Scholarship! This will enable me to make the premiere solo guitar recording of Nigel Westlake’s ‘Mosstrooper Peak’ Sonata for Guitar. I am very excited to be able to record this incredible work! It’s a complex but very human work that has been well received whenever I have performed it and it […]
Recently I recorded a couple works by the Australian composer and author, Jeremy Dickey. I am currently working with Jeremy on recording a full length CD of these works and have been having a lot of pleasure working with the composer on bringing these works to life. Jeremy and I have known each other for a long time now and first met at one of the increasingly popular soirees that Ron Payne regularly hosts in Kew. Many of Australia’s young guitarists […]
Over the past few years I have completed a few projects that I would like to release to the public. I would like to begin with an arrangement I made of J.S. Bach’s Chorus & Recitative from Cantata BWV 27 for two guitars. This project was completed during my time in Spain while studying the Master de Guitarra at The University of Alicante. This is a particularly beautiful cantata brimming with melancholic themes and sombre descending lines throughout. Especially haunting is the […]
We’ve finished the recording process at Old Skool Studios and I’m quite happy with the result! You can hear the recordings by clicking the Video Tab to the left or by subscribing to me on YouTube. The process was really great and fun to see Dave in action behind the desk; I’m a bit of a recording nerd with stuff like this, I love seeing mixing desks and all the gear they have. The videos we’ve released coincide with the […]
I am currently recording a few clips with David Wilkinson at Old Skool Studios with the results to be available soon! We’re recording Villa Lobos Prelude No. 5 and the first movement of the Blackwattle Caprices by Ross Edwards. Everything is sounding great, looking forward to the end product! You can watch videos that I have recorded in the past by clicking the Video tab to the left or by visiting my YouTube Channel [click here].
